“I am honored to achieve this recognition from the White House and commend President Obama for his leadership in climate change and focus on underserved communities,” said Gilbert Campbell. “As one of the few minority entrepreneurs in the industry, I am extremely passionate about encouraging minority communities to explore clean technology. I frequently address and mentor underserved communities across the country about the tremendous opportunities they have as our country’s infrastructure is being revitalized with clean energy.”
The Champions of Change program was created as an opportunity for the White House to feature individuals doing extraordinary things to empower and inspire members of their communities. Over the past several years, Campbell has been a champion for promoting renewable energy, entrepreneurship, and STEM education in underserved communities. Under his leadership, Volt Energy has completed solar projects with clients such as Subaru, The Cheesecake Factory, Fort Brag, KIPP DC, and Florida Avenue Baptist Church. For his work in the community, Campbell was the 2014 recipient of the Amtrak and Washington Wizards Pioneer Award, which recognizes individuals that have made a positive impact in their local communities and he was included in EBONY magazine’s Power 100 List.
