An array of brilliantly blue solar panels line the rooftop of the KIPP DC charter school.
The new solar energy system is comprised of 755 solar panels that will produce 227 kW of clean, renewable electricity at the school’s Douglass Campus in the historic Anacostia neighborhood of Washington DC.
In addition to providing solar energy generation, Volt Energy, the developer for the project, will offer #STEM education workshops and seminars for KIPP students on an ongoing basis. The Energy Department’s Dot Harris, director of the Office of Economic Impact and Diversity, was on hand to participate in the ribbon cutting this past week. The project is a partnership between KiPP DC, Volt Energy, Sol Systems and Washington Gas and Electric.
